A Christmas Message

2022 has been another year for the history books of Central Notts Scout District. Over the past year, we have welcomed more young people into our Scouting family with the formation of the Central Notts Squirrel Drey and the creation of Griffin ESU located at Arnold and Woodthorpe, and this looks to continue in 2023 with more potential Squirrel Dreys opening, and the return of a Scout Network for our District too!

June saw the District come together for our first District Camp since COVID to mark Her Late Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, and planning for another District Camp for 2023 is well underway! Plans are also being laid for the return of a face-to-face St George’s Day Parade in Southwell, albeit modified slightly following the thoughts and views of the young people across the District.

In recent weeks, it has been fantastic to visit groups around the District as they prepare for the Christmas break. One such event was the Southwell Scouts Advent celebration evening where the achievements of the young people were celebrated, with the presentations of the top awards to all sections.

I also cannot forget to congratulate all of the adults across Central Notts who, as part of Nottinghamshire Scouts, were awarded the Queens Awards for Voluntary Service by her Late Majesty The Queen. This award is a fantastic achievement, of which only two were awarded to Scout Counties - the other being Avon, and recognises the hard work and dedication of all the fantastic volunteers we have in not only our District, but the County too!

Over the coming weeks, there are bound to be numerous Christmas Parties and trips as we approach a certain BIG DAY and I hope that Santa will be just as kind to you, as you are to all of the young people across the District in volunteering your spare time for the benefit of our Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers.

So on behalf of the District Exec and the District Team I would like to thank you for all of your hard work this year, and to wish you and your families a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.

Daniel
