County Oak Award Recipients

Each year, Nottinghamshire Scouts take some time to recognise and celebrate achievements across the County.

As we all know 2020 has been a difficult year, so this year the County team wanted to recognise outstanding achievements supporting young people in such a difficult year.

Each District Commissioner can nominate an Adult Volunteer, and a Group or Unit within their District and we are pleased to announce the Central Notts Recipients.

Dani Blackman - ADC Activities and Events

Dani was nominated for all of her hard work to try and keep all the young people engaged and giving them opportunities to keep Scouting whilst at home as soon as we went in to the first lockdown.

She regularly created and posted out daily challenges for young people to do for the first 148 days of lockdown, was integral in putting together and delivering the online district activity day which was open and available to all young people across sections in district and played a leading role in organising the regular live online district quizzes which were open to groups, leaders, young people and their families to take part in (and we have another special Christmas related one tomorrow!).

Invictus Explorers

During May, Invictus Explorers continued with their adventuring at home. Whilst they were unable to get out and meet face-to-face, the Explorer Unit decided to undertake the challenge of climbing the height of Mount Kilimanjaro, using just their stair cases in their own homes! Each member had to climb at least 85 flights of stairs each!

Whilst taking part in the activity, the Explorers were also able to raise £930 for Headway, all in memory of one of the Explorers Parents, who sadly passed away unexpectedly earlier this year.

Congratulations to both Dani and Invictus ESU who have certainly 'done their best' over the course of the past year.
